Golden
Originally named Golden City in 1859, Golden, Colorado has a rich history beginning with the gold rush days of the nineteenth century. As settlers from the east gathered around the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon in the 1850s, it was clear that gold was the key to their success. The city of Golden quickly sprouted as more than 700 residents traveled westward, building homes, stores and saloons.
Now the county seat of Jefferson County, the city of Golden is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains , just 13 miles west of Denver . The city is conveniently located near major highways as well as the Denver International Airport , making it easy to travel to. Golden is the home to more than 16,000 residents within its eight square mile boundaries.
Golden offers a number of attractions to residents and visitors alike. Some of the city’s more popular features include Buffalo Bill’s Gravesite and Museum, the Colorado Railroad Museum , and the Foothills Art Center . In addition, the city offers bike paths, hiking trails, and a wealth of parks. The Coors Brewing Company, in business for 125 years, is located in Golden and is a popular tourist attraction, bringing in more than 300,000 guests each year.
This charming Colorado town retains much of its historic charm. On Golden’s 12th Street , for example, visitors will find Victorian homes and buildings, originally built by the territory’s early pioneers. The city’s small town allure can be felt during its annual festivals, including Buffalo Bill Days in July, the Golden Fine Arts Festival in August, Golden Fest in September, and an Olde Golden Christmas in December.
