Highland is actually referred to as East Highland, Lower Highland and LoHi especially by Realtors in the area. Boundaries are West 38th Ave on the north, Union Pacific Railroad lines on the east, South Platte River on the southeast, Speer Boulevard and W 29th Ave to the South, and Federal Boulevard on the West. The Highlands are referred to as the Brooklyn of Colorado. Highland is located immediately northwest of downtown Denver. This neighborhood is influenced by Hispanic heritage. A trendy and diverse area with restaurants bars and shops, the commercial district encompasses, Lower Highland (LoHi), Highlands Square and Tennyson Street. West Highland neighborhood is to the immediate west of Highland, with its boundaries at 38th and 29th Avenues on the north and south and Federal and Sheridan Boulevards on the east and west.

Another area to check out is Highland Square at 32nd and Lowell. Here you will find boutiques, restaurants in between bungalow-style quaint and charming houses. Expect to find Mexican and Caribbean cuisine as well as seafood restaurants and sushi.

Don’t forget the Tennyson Street Cultural District, with its trendy art galleries featuring artwork from local artists. Here you will also find live music and some terrific Italian and Mexican restaurants. It’s a great place to shop, eat and take a nice walk.

In 2009, Men’s Journal named Lower Highland one of the best neighborhoods in the country. A diverse cultural hot spot with family owned restaurants and so much more. Brick brownstones, row houses, and modern upscale condominiums are attracting single professionals, young couples and families looking for a neighborhood with some flair and excitement. The core of the neighborhood is located up the 15th Street hill.

For nature lovers, there are three large parks in the area: Sloan’s Lake, Rocky Mountain Lake, and Berkley Park.

Festivals in the area include the June, the Highlands Street Fair brings the neighborhood alive with music, great food, arts and crafts, a classic car show, and The Dragon Boat Festival celebrates Asian culture.
